The Hooping Crane is a compact, self-deploying cargo handling system designed to unload and position heavy payloads on the Martian surface. Delivered as part of a dedicated cargo lander, the crane remains stowed during transit and landing before autonomously deploying into an elevated arched structure. Using motorized trolleys and lifting mechanisms that travel along the hoop, the system can safely extract habitat modules, rovers, logistics containers, and infrastructure components from the lander deck without requiring large mobile construction equipment.

Once deployed, the crane provides a stable lifting envelope around the lander, enabling precise placement of payloads onto prepared foundations or transport vehicles. Its lightweight structural design minimizes launch mass while maximizing reach and lifting capability. By allowing critical settlement elements to be unloaded and assembled autonomously, the Hooping Crane serves as a key enabling technology for the rapid construction and expansion of a sustainable Mars outpost.
